VACANT POSITIONS are first POSTED for INTERNAL BIDDING by eligible current active City employees. During the posting period we will also accept outside applications and we will conduct additional recruitment programs when warranted. Outside applicants are referred for consideration in those cases where no internal bidder is recommended for transfer or promotion.
The Majority of City jobs are subject to state civil service rules and procedures and fall into one of two categories:
Laboring jobs are filled through the LABOR SERVICE registration where applicants are placed on waiting lists and ranked in order of registration date with qualified Veterans going ahead of Non veterans. A list of LABOR SERVICE job titles with entrance requirements is on display in this office.
A separate registration list for entry level LABOR SERVICE jobs is maintained of those applicants who meet the qualifications for a "Section 47A Certification for disadvantaged persons". Information regarding these qualifications along with the application procedures are outlined on a separate sheet available in this office.
General job applications for these opportunities are accepted whether or not there is a current vacant position and WILL REMAIN ACTIVE FOR 3 MONTHS. If you meet the minimum entrance requirements we will make a referral where possible to a position which becomes vacant during that period. We will also renew your application AT YOUR REQUEST.
